Physician Referral Portal: A Clinical Partnership
Streamline the referral process for medical-grade Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). We provide GTA specialists and family physicians with a high-trust, clinical-tier partner for both OHIP-covered and elective recompression.
Intro: A Clinical Extension of Your Specialty Care
At TorontoHyperbaric.ca, we recognize that hyperbaric medicine is an adjunctive therapy—a specialized tool designed to enhance the clinical outcomes achieved by primary specialists. Whether you are a vascular surgeon managing a complex diabetic foot ulcer, an oncologist addressing delayed radiation injury, or a neurologist seeking to maximize post-stroke recovery, our facility at 525 Markham Road functions as a high-tier clinical extension of your own practice.
Our Revivo Neurology Treatment Centre is designed for the professional clinician. We provide the medical-grade infrastructure, certified technical oversight, and integrated rehabilitation required to manage the most complex clinical cases in Ontario. In this portal, we provide the tools and information necessary to initiate a seamless and effective referral for your patients.
1. The 14 OHIP-Covered Indications: A Quick-Reference Guide
For the following 14 clinical indications, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is a Ministry of Health (OHIP-covered) service. We coordinate directly with the referring specialist to ensure that all clinical criteria are met and the treatment is initiated with the urgency it requires.
Emergency Medical Indications
- Air or Gas Embolism: Rapid recompression for arterial or venous gas bubbles.
- Carbon Monoxide Poisoning: Clearing CO and preventing delayed neurological sequelae.
- Gas Gangrene (Clostridial Myonecrosis): Bactericidal and bacteriostatic oxygenation.
- Crush Injury & Compartment Syndrome: Reducing edema while hyper-oxygenating local tissue.
- Decompression Sickness: The gold standard for the “bends” and dysbaric illness.
- Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SSHL): A high-priority auditory emergency recompression.
- Exceptional Blood Loss (Anemia): Supporting life when transfusions are impossible or insufficient.
- Necrotizing Soft Tissue Infections: HALTING the rapid spread of necrotizing fasciitis.
Chronic and Surgical Indications
- Diabetic Foot Ulcers (Wagner Grade 3+): Promoting angiogenesis and salvage of the limb.
- Delayed Radiation Injury: Reparing microvascular damage in soft tissue and bone (Osteoradionecrosis).
- Compromised Skin Grafts and Flaps: Ensuring surgical success for at-risk tissue transfers.
- Refractory Osteomyelitis: Adjunctive oxygenation for deep-seated bone infections.
- Intracranial Abscess: Enhancing the immune response in the central nervous system.
- Thermal Burns: Supporting the “Zone of Stasis” in significant burn injuries.
2. How to Refer a Patient: The Seamless Referral Loop
We aim to make the referral process as Frictionless as possible for your clinical team.
Step 1: Download and Submit the Referral Form
Our standardized referral template is designed to ensure that our clinical team has all the necessary data (surgical summaries, vascular reports, or oncology data) to begin the triage process immediately. [Download the GTA Physician Referral Form →]
Step 2: Prompt Clinical Triage
Upon receipt of the referral, our lead clinical technician and intake team will review the case within one business day (or within hours for emergency indications). We contact the patient directly to schedule their initial clinical assessment at our Scarborough hub.
Step 3: Initial Assessment and Treatment Plan
Every referred patient undergoes a thorough hyperbaric-specific physical exam and a review of their goals. We build a medical-grade protocol (e.g., 2.0 ATA for 90 minutes over 20-40 sessions) tailored to their specific condition.
3. Clinical Reporting and Multi-Disciplinary Coordination
When you refer a patient to TorontoHyperbaric.ca, we maintain a closed-loop communication system with your office.
Regular Progress Updates
For chronic conditions like wound healing or radiation injury, we provide regular progress reports, including wound photography and functional status updates. If a patient’s clinical course changes (e.g., a new surgical graft is planned), we adjust our hyperbaric protocol in real-time coordination with your team.
Final Treatment Summaries
Upon completion of the hyperbaric course, we provide a definitive treatment summary back to the referring specialist. This report includes the total number of sessions, the specific pressures utilized, and a clinical summary of the patient’s progress and outcomes.
4. Technical Standards: Why Refer to Revivo?
Our facility is designed to satisfy the Highest clinical and safety standards of the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS).
- Medical-Grade Mono-Place Chambers: Our high-pressure, clear-acrylic mono-place chambers provide a superior clinical environment compared to wellness-style soft units.
- Certified Technical Oversight: Every session is monitored by experienced technicians trained in clinical hyperbaric operations.
- Integrated Neuro-Rehabilitation: For neurological referrals (Stroke, TBI), our unique Revivo integrated rehabilitation ecosystem allows patients to receive intensive physical therapy during the period of peak oxygenation immediately following surgery or a session.
5. Direct Clinical Inquiries: Physician-to-Clinician Consultation
If you have a complex case and are unsure if Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is the right adjunctive move, we offer direct clinical consultations for specialists. You can speak directly with our clinical leadership team to discuss the latest research, clinical criteria, and expected outcomes for your specific patient.
